The Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) is the national authority responsible for accreditation in Bangladesh, established in 2006 as an autonomous statutory body. It oversees accreditation programs for laboratories, certification bodies, inspection bodies, training institutions, and individuals according to ISO, IEC, and national standards. BAB aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s quality assurance infrastructure and enhance the international, regional, and domestic recognition of its products and services. Its vision is to become a competent and trusted accreditation body in the Asia-Pacific region. The board’s mission focuses on maintaining APLAC/ILAC MRA status, supporting national development through trade facilitation, and delivering confidence and protection to the public through quality accreditation services. BAB works to establish a national accreditation system aligned with international best practices, raise awareness about accreditation among stakeholders, improve conformity assessment activities through training and workshops, ensure stakeholder participation in policy development, and actively engage in regional and international accreditation forums, including signing Multilateral and Mutual Recognition Arrangements. Its functions include accrediting testing, calibration, and medical laboratories, certification and inspection bodies, organizing training programs and proficiency testing, harmonizing standards, and coordinating the national conformity assessment system to achieve international recognition and establish accreditation as a key market factor.
