The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Bangladesh was established in 1978 to promote youth development and involve young people in national progress. Later in 1981, the Department of Youth Development (DYD) was formed under this ministry to implement youth-related programs across the country. DYD is a public organization that works nationwide to develop the skills, employment opportunities, and productivity of young people. The main target group of DYD is unemployed youth aged 18 to 35 years. The organization focuses on improving their skills, creating employment opportunities, and encouraging self-reliance. Its vision is to make young people organized, disciplined, and productive so they can actively contribute to national development. The key objectives of DYD include involving youth in socio-economic activities, promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship, and encouraging participation in community development and decision-making. It also supports the formation of youth organizations that work for social progress. DYD provides skill development training in 74 trades, helping youth gain practical knowledge for jobs or business. It also offers microcredit facilities to support small businesses and self-employment. In addition, the National Service Program provides temporary jobs to young people, helping them gain work experience. The department also supports youth organizations, organizes national and international youth events, and provides recognition such as the National Youth Award. These initiatives motivate young people to contribute to society. Overall, DYD plays an important role in reducing unemployment and empowering youth in Bangladesh through training, financial support, and employment programs, helping them become productive members of society.
